History & Biography
The Maudlins were an extremely atmospheric band from the USA that operated on the basis that variety and diversity a better record make. A 1996 demo was a birthday announcement. It was called Through Languid Veins. Things got more complicated with 1997’s Begat Of The Haunted Oak: An Acorn. For My Wife demo came in 1998. The band signed with Dark Symphonies and began issuing albums.

The group changed its name in 2003 after Bath and Leaving Your Body Map, which were companion albums, but returned in 2009 (with a truncated line-up) to issue a digital album financed by the group’s fans. It was pressed on CD and vinyl later of course. In the meantime, all three albums had been reissued with bonus demo songs. Part The Second came out in 2009. The song title An Excerpt from 6,000,000,000,000 Miles Before The First, Or, The Revisitation Of The Blue Ghost could be a future Jeopardy answer. 2019 brought a bunch of forgotten tracks (some semi-finished) that the band called Sacred Spaces: Second, January 1997. More early material was uploaded that year and named The Day That Knew No End b/w The Palace.

Reviews

MAUDLIN OF THE WELL - MY FRUIT PSYCHOBELLS (A SEED COMBUSTIBLE) - DARK SYMPHONIES
Maudlin of the Well is a truly off beat band. Beginning with the very different moniker and the refreshingly minimal cover art, American entity Maudlin (comprised of six individuals) transpose their sounds to a realm not really metal, not really rock, pop or anything, just...living art in the form of music. In fact referencing the band's many allusions here, Maudlin has more in common with a Cibo Matto than with heavy metal. The experimentation with the conventional heavy metal riff, to the technicality of Anacrusis to the world's trippiest art-jazz fusion beat seem as natural to this group as flight to an urchin, so is the seamless transformation. This is, therefore, not for the fast food digestion mentality of the modern man or even for the metal fan, but rather Maudlin function as an independent entity bent inward on its own world. - Ali "The Metallian"
