History & Biography Meanstreak was an all-girl band (and should not be confused with the earlier UK band of the same name) formed by guitarists Rena and Marlene in 1985 whose only claim to so-so fame is how the members married musicians in Dream Theater. To start the guitarists were playing Judas Priest cover versions. Sands married John Petrucci (and dated Joey Belladonna), Pace married John Myung and Apuzzo married Mike Portnoy. Bettina France was not a metal fan and was introduced to the genre by the guitarists. After its album on Music For Nations, the band issued demos like The Other Side (1989), The Dark Gift (1992) and Dangerous Women (1993), but soon disappeared. Diane had been replaced by Yael Devan. Diane Keyser played on the record, but yearning a more metal drummer Devan was brought in. Mercenary Records placed the band's song Lost Stranger on the L'Amour Rocks compilation and then proceeded to offer the band a full-length contract.
The New Yorkers were probably inspired by Y&T’s Mean Streak album, but were heavier. The group played with the likes of Nuclear Assault and Anthrax. There was a mini-tour with Overkill.
Rules must be obeyed and so this band reformed in 2022 some thirty years after disbanding. Meanstreak conducted a U.S. tour in support of John Petrucci's solo concerts with Mike Portnoy. An EP called Blood Moon was announced through Step Off Records for February 2024. A song called Giant Speaks was available early. Metal Allegiance had a New Jersey concert, with Meanstreak and Held Hostage opening, in September 2024. The band was opening for Zebra in 2025.
