History & Biography Misfortune was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1995, The Concrete demo lead to a recording contract with Blackend. In 1998, the label issued the EP Midnightenlightened. This was the band’s erstwhile demo and showed a move away from Pantera to Swedish and Gothenburg sounds. The year after brought a full-length called Forsaken. The band was last heard on the label’s Hymns To The Fallen compilations.
Reviews MISFORTUNE - FORSAKEN - BLACKEND
Landing inconspicuously into my mail box, Forsaken is Misfortune's only full length release (a demo put to CD is the sole other release) seeing that the Swedes have long since broken up - although a side project called Eblis may or may not be active. The fact explaining a lack of info or promotion from issuing label, we turn our attention to the music and truly it's a case of the-more-you-listen-the-better-it-gets process. While at first listen Forsaken may come across as just another mid-paced death metal release, it is only after repeated listen that a few merits come to mind and the music actually grows on you. Best described as a mid-paced Naglfar, the band mixes harmonic guitar passages with heavy vocals all the while refraining to imitate any one band or style. Sure it's all sadly mid-paced, but the occasional inspired moment of guitar acrobatics plus a couple of little surprises like a nice drum piece, warm sound and forlorn lyrics do add up to quite a respectable metal listen. - Ali "The Metallian"
