History & Biography
This version of a Monastery was founded in Zalaegerszeg in Western Hungary in 1989 and played death metal. The early members were Zoltán Németh, Krisztián Kovács and Róbert Kovács. With the rise in the trend, the band also picked up mallcore, but would oscillate between styles. The band broke up and was dead in the late 1990s only to return in 2001. The act resumed activity again in 2020 after breaking up in 2007.

Way To Life was a 1990 demo. Krisztián Mórocz was on vocals. Another demo was issued before the act’s ironically-titled debut record of 1992, Far From Christ. The group would proclaim it the first Hungarian death metal album. Next up was a demo called Postmortem Aggressive End in 1994. The act broke up with Róbert Kovács’ departure and returned with a Promo 2002. The singer was Frytz here. The 2003 demo was called Fuck This World. The 2004 demo was called Misanthrope. This was followed by Promo 2005. After reformation, Monastery issued a demo called Chimera in 2021. Huangquan Records of China began rereleasing the group’s old material again. A record called Divine Damnation emerged in 2022, which was thirty years after the debut. The band played at Symbolic Festival in the Czech Republic. Art Gates Records of Spain picked the bald monks up and released From Blood in 2023. Lajos Diószegi, a Hungarian living in England, penned the lyrics. The group toured with Belphegor to end 2023. 2024 began with a European tour with Atheist and Cryptopsy. The act toured with Nile and Hideous Divinity later in the year. Hungary-based Monastery had a 2024 video for its song Strangled In Torture. The band also had an upcoming album on Art Gates Records. In the meantime, the act was booked for Rockmaraton 2024 and Fezen Festival 2024 in Hungary.
