Reviews MORD - CHRISTENDOM PERISHED - SOUTHERN LORD
Years ago four wise men followed a star and shouted at the devil. Casting aside such subtlety Norway’s Mord screams with the devil throughout an album called Christendom Perished. Some might believe the band’s resolve to be futile given the worldwide propagation of Christianity in general and its recent momentum in America in particular. Others keen observers might point out that Christianity has more to do with Satan than anything else. Death, murder, war, destruction of the earth and sadism are on the rise. In this context, Mord has already won.
One part Norwegian, another part the drummer for a Polish band, the band whose name translates to Murder comes at the listener with ferociousness reserved for bands like immortal and Darkthrone. It must be a mind of arrogance which would name song after song an 'Opus,' but gloating aside this material probably cares little for perceptions or popular opinion. Most songs fly with speed, the bass guitar is loud and audible, the drummer knows a great beat or two while the band’s image leaves little to the imagination. Special mention goes to Opus IV, which delivers, on its Immortal influences and Opus III with its creative riffing and frenzied drumming. - Ali “The Metallian”
