History & Biography
Mors Subita, which is Latin for ‘Sudden Death,’ was founded in Oulu in Western Finland in 1999. MS started as a side-project to Zilstrone in which guitarists Mika Lammassaari and his cousin Aki Lammassaari, alongside drummer Haapala, played. Zilstrone died circa 2000 and this act became the members’ centrepiece although Aki quit in 2000. The band released a demo called Synopsis in 2003. The act had begun covering songs by the likes of White Zombie and Pantera. The Epoch demo followed, but only in 2006. Bassist Mika Junttila had joined the group in 2005. Singer Antti subbed for Catamenia singer Olli-Jukka Mustonen when the latter injured his throat and could not complete the vocals for the Location: Cold album. Still the Paranea demo, in contrast, came quicker and in 2007. The band conducted a mini-tour with Maple Cross. A final demo for this round was Sound Of Spite of 2009.

A local label called Violent Journey Records signed the band for its debut album. Human Waste Compression was released in 2011. Drummer Juha Haapala defected. Haapsamo announced his departure and a farewell concert had the act open for Ensiferum. Haapsamo was replaced by Eemeli Bodde.

Typical for the band, the next record was issued four years after its predecessor and was on a new label. Eemeli Bodde and Ville Miinala were the newcomers. Tero Piltonen had briefly played guitar live. The next record came in 2018. Referencing its debut album, the 2019 compilation Human Waste Collection was a three-disc set. It was released by Out Of Line Music of Germany.

The new label released the band’s next record. Extinction Era was out in the autumn of 2020. Juho Näppä was on second guitar now two years after joining as a hand for concerts. He had been with the band since 2018. Mors Subita announced a 2023 record to be called Origin Of Fire. The act toured with Kalmah and Suotana and uploaded songs called Blood Eagle and Regenerate first. The band was booked for Nummirock 2023.

Guitarist Mika spent time in Eternal Tears Of Sorrow between 2009 and 2018. He also composed music for the joke movie Heavy Trip. The director for the film had worked on a music video with the band. Bassist Junttila also joined goth act The Man-Eating Tree as of 2019. Eemeli Bodde joined Decapitated in 2024.
