History & Biography
This funeral doom metal band was founded in 1993. Ben Petch was on drums and guitar. Weeping and An Epic Dream Of Desire were early demo titles. Several years passed and a full-length demo, called Tears from A Grieving Heart, appeared. This was reissued by 20 Buck Spin years later. A couple of splits took the band to 2005 and The Monad Of Creation. The band and Funeral Moth toured Japan in 2010. The group signed with 20 Buck Spin in late 2011 for the North American release of two full-length releases. The first of the pair, a compilation of out-of-print tracks entitled The Unspoken Hymns, acted as a prologue for the band’s new full-length album, The Book Of Kings. Australian funeral doom band Mournful Congregation begun its first American tour in Seattle in late 2011. Support came from Aldebaran and Anhedonist. Aldebaran Call would later join the band. A 2014 EP was called Concrescence Of The Sophia and was issued by the band’s new home, 20 Buck Spin. The two tracks contained more than 30 minutes of music. Ben Petch returned, but on guitar, in 2016. Mournful Congregation has an album called The Incubus Of Karma through its new label, Osmose Productions. Mournful Congregation released The Exuviae Of Gods – Part I, which was the first in a two-part EP, through 20 Buck Spin. The follow-up EP was due early 2023.

The band added a couple of musicians when it played live.
