Metallian Demos

Born only eighteen months ago in Paris, Tracy Gang Pussy's 3" MCD is described by the band as 100% sleazy glam punk. Reagan, Micky Street, Revlon and Suicide rock it up with a distinct English enunciation and glam it up, albeit with short hair. The band is a mix of Faster Pussycat, Backyard Babies and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. The songs are guitar-oriented, brash and play with abandon. It has a certain danceable rhythm though so banish any thoughts of heavy metal here. Instead bring out the hair gel, roll up the short sleeves and get ready to rock 'n' roll. is the address for the CD and more information. - Ali "The Metallian"

Gaspanic is a Japanese duo of two guitarists one of whom is Colourfast's Akira Naito. The band is abetted by a drum machine and even incorporates synthesizers and samples. Out of the four songs on offer here, the best one has to be Hole. Although nearly all four have varied and respectable riffs and guitar doodling all over them. Gaspanic needs to introduce a real drum, tone down some of the more offbeat vocals and forge ahead with its powerful metal guitar playing. It is always good to hear the Japanese add talent and uniqueness to heavy metal. E-mail: - Ali "The Metallian"

Colourfast is the child of Akira Naito who is responsible for all instruments and programming on the CD. Oddly enough, the demo's cover is in old-fashioned black and white. The lack of colour extends to the music. The act incorporates drum machine and programmed synthesizers rendering the environment cold and sterile. The riffs are heavy and the vocals agonized. A great example of Akira's playing ability can be heard on the rousing Fly High. Truth be told, Colourfast is unlike anything else out there at the moment, but fans of Fear Factory might be the appropriate target market for the Japanese entity. E-mail Akira at - Ali "The Metallian"

Kinetic is a young Greek band, although the four members have amassed some experience in bands like Brain Fade, Acid Death and Wisdom. The three-song demo showcases a band with an original metallic blend. The band crosses from heavy to power and to thrash metal and offers up a powerful mix to its listeners. A few passages do sound like late-era Death and a few snarly vocal forays a la Voivod can also be heard. As for the downside, the band's drummer tries a few toms he should not and has a very mechanical sound on The Realms Of Nightmare. For something different either write to 11 Kassiopis Str., 174 56 Alimos, Athens Greece or e-mail either or - Ali "The Metallian"

Delian League is a one-year old band from New Jersey, although the guitarists have jammed together for much longer than that. We will return to this point momentarily. In the meanwhile, the American quintet's skill and capability is quite impressive - given its age or not. The band plays hard rock with an edge. The band's trump card is none other than its guitar department. A tight rhythm, remarkable riffs and fine soloing are all in this union's arsenal. The first of the three songs here, The Questioning, demos this by way of godly guitars all around. The other two songs are not quite as sharp, but still impress the listener in the song writing department. Final Day reminds one of a harder Moist, while Days Of Regret regretfully incorporates a touch of keyboards. If forced, Delian League could be compared to late Armored Saint and Metal Church, although the gang is very much into doing its own thing. The band should write more songs like the CD opener, use its lead guitars more and keep going. Find out more about the band by writing to - Ali "The Metallian"

Panzer Division, currently a one-man project, hails from Norway and blasts out brutal metallic material with the backing of an insane drum machine. The material is faster than fast, the guitar sound sharp, the vocals manipulated and the themes evil and morbid. The sound is surprisingly clear and the riffs in-your-face. Anyone into underground products mixing a dosage of industrial with a bigger dosage of metal will dig this. - Write to Dave Lie at - Ali "The Metallian"
