Metallian Demos

Deadblow Hammer is Drillrod on vocals and guitars, Peenball on guitar, Crossthread on bass and Shank on drum (machine) which makes it a perfect segueway into the obligatory 'industrial' notification. Yes, the Canadian band has the drum machine, the samples, the electronica and is considerably less metal than industrial music. The connection though is more than the obvious correlation between metal and industry. Deadblow Hammer is a side-project of a certain leader of the completely metal band Empyria. Is that connection enough to sell this demo? Based on the music on this disc, the answer is no. What to do? Firstly go out and get new fans. Secondly, figure out the riddle that is the title for song number six, namely F.T.P. Of The D.B.H. Answers to or through - Ali "The Metallian"

Burial Hordes, which features two members from Enshadowed, has just released an impressive demo. The CD showcases a band which has interred its Greek origin and transfixed on Scandinavia as the source for rotten black metal. The demo starts with a slower riff, but quickly speeds up to unleash its raw and violent disease faster than Dimmu Borgir can sell (out) another 200,000 albums. The sound here is a cross between Abyss, Darkthrone and Horde. The vocals are hysterical and sinister. The bass sound is strong and present. Only the drum sound could use a little work. All in all though, Mors Luminis is a violent backlash against a society ridden with diseased maggots and shallow facades of order. Drink the blood, but destroy the Kool-Aid. Order the demo for only 5 Euros from K.Palama 5, 15351, Panorama Palinis, Athens Greece or write to for more information. - Ali "The Metallian"

Calm Site is a Finnish band with an odd name. The five guys (not one has long hair) have had the same line-up since 1998. In the meanwhile they have released El Tiempo Muerte in 2000, 99 Moonshine in 2001, Deadweight last year and this demo this year. The boys are productive, but there is nothing unusual in their sound. The typical Finnish melodies exist side-by-side with the gruff singing. The band does not speed up much, but is not exactly slow either. Fans of heavy metal with long and melodic passages can check it all out by writing or writing to Jukka Penttinen, Paivolantie 27 a 7, 11120 Riihimaki Finland. By the way, is it me or does Jukka look like James Hetfield in the CD's photograph? - Sheila Wes Det

The two guys who live in the Harmony Cell must be a twisted couple. The elements that make up this act are disparate forces. The singer barks, shouts and writhes incessantly (think early Napalm Death mixed with Pro-pain), while the music is melodic, fast, loves riff and incorporates many solos. Unfortunately my personal hunch is that this is backed by a drum machine. regardless, it is a noisy concoction with a total devil-may-care attitude. The band does not provide any info or even a paltry photo to satisfy my poor heart. This crazy metalcore stuff is all too uncommon nowadays. The Philadelphia band can be found through its Internet address which is or by writing to - Sheila Wes Det
