History & Biography This early Japanese band lasted only a year and a half, but managed to issue an album in the space. Heavy metal bands in Japan of the '70s were scarce and 野獣/Nokemono (alongside Bow Wow) is considered a pioneering band. The band won the MidLand '78 Rock Competition hosted by Yamaha Music and obtained the Judas Priest opening slot in that year. Judas Priest was touring in support of its 1978 Stained Class album. The band is rumoured to have regrouped for one-off shows including once in 2017. This one-off featured drummer Nishida Ryuichi later of Loudness and guitarist Kusakabe Masanori of Sniper.
Nokemono translates to ‘beast’ in Japanese. Japan-based black metal band Sabbat covered the song Arijigoku ('Larva') for its 2004 compilation, ...To Praise The Sabbatical Queen.
