History

This progressive hard rock band was formed in Frankfurt by guitarist Pit Hensel and bassist Claus Kniemeyer in 1973. Frank Eule drummed. The debut was self-recorded as the producer ran out of the money. Sky would subsequently sign the band and release the album. Sep joined in 1977 and Pit left in 1978. Octopus played for 60,000 at Rock Gegen Rechts in Frankfurt In June 1979. Jennifer – now called Jennifer Kowa - left in 1980 and was replaced by Doris Tangel before herself being replaced by Michael Stein. Despite being called ‘Octopus’ the cover of Hart Am Rand depicted a McDonalds customer. This album was sung in German, veered to New Wave and featured male vocals now. The end came in 1983.

Sireena re-released the band’s work after the turn of the century. The band is considered a Kraut rock act and compared to Camel and Eloy.
