The Los Angeles-based hard rock band was founded in 1980 with Art Garza on vocals before changing its monicker to that of a Norse god. The band was featured in the documentary The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years alongside Motörhead, W.A.S.P. and others in 1988. The band issued a single called Caution! in 1983. The single featured guitarist Brad Parker who had played with Metallica. The Don't Take No For An Answer MLP came two years later. It featured ‘Odin’ on the cover. This was the band’s most popular period. The Gods Must Be Crazy came in 1987 and the band had taken a more glam metal approach. Victor in Japan issued the band’s record. Randy O. Roberg quit in 1988 and several vocalists came and went, but otherwise the core line-up has been remarkably stable over the years. Roberg would return in 1988 and 2003. The band quit, but naturally reformed in 2003 (for a one-off show at Troubadour), 2011 and again in 2016. Human Animal was a 2008 demo. The band was booked for the Rocklahoma festival in 2008. The band signed with EMP in 2018 for the re-release of its music.

A couple of the members were in Lostboys, which was distributed by Atlantic Records. The Duncans are brothers. Randy Roberg is the cousin of Jerry Dixon from Warrant.
