Reviews OF GRAVES AND GODS - SLIT THROAT ANDROMEDA - CANDLELIGHT
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Of Graves And Gods is a newer New Mexico-based crossover/metalcore/whatever band that sounds almost like every other band of this much abused sub-genre. Why we even bother reviewing these albums is beyond me. Even sell-out central (known in some circles as Roadrunner Records) has again started signing what they think is metal.
Of Graves And Gods occupies the harder end of the metalcore spectrum. The band’s sound is belligerent and brutal, infused with heavier cuts like Heaven’s Death or Part 2 (That Which Comes Between) that approach the sounds of some death metal bands and is further overstated with a full and noisy sound. Then again, the lack of originality, the spoken vocal segments and the non-descript drumming take back most of the aforementioned gains. Diehard fans of bands like Unearth will like this material, but at Metallian Towers a more likely discussion would be the archaeology/astronomy combination of the band’s name and album title than anything else. - Anna Tergel
