History & Biography
The death metal band Cursed Celebration existed between 1994 and 1998 and managed one demo. The name was changed and ophiolatry (meaning worshipping snakes as gods) was active between 1998 and 2012. The 1999 demo Opposite Monarchy became the band's contribution to an Ophiolatry and Ancestral Malediction split release and a release called Brazilian Assault through Relapse in 2000. A full-length was issued in 2002. A tour of Europe ensued. The band was part of several more split releases. The Brazilians appeared at Brutal Assault Open Air and Mountains Of Death Open Air in 2006. Guitarist Infernus (a.k.a. Roger Tiegs) of Gorgoroth founded his own label, Forces Of Satan Records in 2007. The first bands on the label were Black Flame (Italy) and Ophiolatry (Brazil). The band toured Brazil in 2007. Transmutation was available in 2008. Gorgoroth' used guitarist Zperandio live in 2011. Drummer Jhorge "Dog" Duarte left in 2010. Drummer Leonardo Mancilha stepped in. This incarnation took the band into an electronic direction. The band split up in 2012.

The act returned in 2020, but only Duarte was from the original line-up. The drummer recruited three new musicians in 2020. The group was managed by Extreme Management in 2022. Brazil-based black metal group Ophiolatry had signed with WormHoleDeath Records for the release of a new album called Serpent’s Verdict, which was available in June 2025. There was a video for the song Death Tour. The song Revenge was inspired by a British woman who killed her husband by placing boiling water mixed with sugar in her husband’s mouth when he was sleeping. She claimed it was revenge after discovering accusations of child sexual abuse.
