History & Biography
This Hamburg-based death/doom metal act was founded in 2001 and issued a demo, called Empty, Silent And Cold, in 2002. Philipp Kruppa was the sole member between 2001 and 2003. Drummer Richard Nolte came, went, returned in 2003 and departed again in 2006. A line-up and Cxxt Bxxcher Records brought the 2004 EP Nostrae Mortis Signaculum. Imperium Productions stepped in for the debut. Solitude Productions stepped in for the sophomore record. There was a split record with The Netherlands-based Officium Triste in 2012. New record meant new label in 2014. The tradition would continue. The band toured with Mournful Congregation in late 2018. Earlier that year the band had played at the Grind The Nazi Scum Open Air. Guitarist Simon and drummer Steffen, who had joined at the same time, both left in late 2018. Scheduling was cited as the cause. The band was the co-headliner for the Barther Open Air festival in 2020. Floris was on guitar and Ole Fink on drums for Spew Forth Odium. The band was booked for Dutch Doom Days XXI in late 2023. Ophis was booked for Doomship festival of Hamburg in 2025.

Ophis is Greek for ‘snake’. Several members are band-mates elsewhere.
