Reviews ORATORY - BEYOND EARTH - LIMB
Oratory hails from Portugal and plays a smooth and often speedy metal. The band has a female singer who thankfully stays away from the cliche-ridden operatic approach used by one too many band nowadays. In fact, she comes across as the female version of Freedom Call's Chris Bay. She has a good voice and puts some strength behind it. Having said that, this reviewer is not the world's biggest fan of female vocals in metal. The band though, thinks differently. The vocals drown everything else in the mix. There is enough music audible to state that the band plays its speedy melodies with tightness and conviction. Beyond Earth is produced by Uwe Lulis (Grave Digger, Total Eclipse, etc.) which means the instruments are well recorded though. The best advice to Oratory is to roughen up the vocals, banish the odd keyboard and then come back for another try. The band will be much better for it. - Ali "The Metallian"
