History & Biography Empyreus was an independent black metal band for ten years until 2019 before the band modified its cadre and name and became Ossilegium, which is the name for the collected bones of a dead person in an ossuary. The Ossilegium demo of 2020 was recorded as a quartet. The band then became Xhul (Empyreus, Kommandant and Withering Soul) and Valr (Amongst the Fallen, Blackened Temple and Kommandant). Bassist Noctis left in 2023. Drummer Gravmond left in 2023 too.
Personal Records released The Gods Below, the debut full length from Chicago, USA-based black metal duo Ossilegium in May. Former Vader and then current Belphegor live drummer Krzysztof Klingbein recorded the drums. The music was compared to Necrophobic, Unanimated and Dawn.
