History & Biography
There is no escaping it. There are so many bands upon bands on the metal scene that when one calls itself ‘Overlorde’ with an ‘e’ at the end there still are others with the same monicker around. That is what happened to the New Jersey, USA-based Overlorde that was competing for the name with the North Carolina bunch.

The band was founded by Kong and M.E. in 1985 and released the Overlorde demo, with ex-Trox singer Pat O’Donell, in 1987. This demo featured a mix of studio and live tracks and came with Side White and Side Black. The first gig had come in the autumn of 1985 by which time Dave Wrenn had replaced the original drummer. Wrenn had, in fact, refused the offer to join initially. Future Symphony X singer Rod Tyler Loiza briefly joined in 1988. The band attended the CMJ convention in NYC in 1988 as well. The band disintegrated in 1989, however, after losing its drummer. An in-progress demo was not completed. The members went on to play in cover acts and focus on their day jobs. John refocused on Final Plea. Drummer Wrenn was in Persia and Ichabod Crane.

Overlorde 2000 signalled the band’s return. The band appeared at Powermad in August 2001 and an album, entitled Return Of The Snow Giant, emerged in 2004. The record featured the tracks from the 2000 demo as well. The band was booked for the Keep It True festival in 2005.

The act became inactive again. Dave Wrenn left in 2013 and Bobby Lucas officially left in 2014. The 2017 Demo emerged. The album number two came six years later, but again featured tracks from the demo before it. John "Kong" Bunucci left in 2018, but rejoined in 2019.

The band’s monicker was influenced by both Operation Overlord, which was the codename for the Battle Of Normandy in 1944 and the Led Zeppelin line in Immigrant Song, “We are your overlords.” The band covers this song live. The song The Longest Day was about D-Day and the Normandy invasion of World War II. An ‘e’ was added to the monicker for effect.
