History & Biography
Skinhead and black metal band Pest came together in 1997 and released the Schwarze Visionen demo in 1998. The monicker was "a tribute to the plague of the 14th century, which killed about a third of the European population." The demo title translated into 'black visions' in English. The band was singer and guitarist Atax, guitarist and bassist Scum and Polish drummer Mrok. The Ära demo was next. It was issued in May 2000. It was, of course, hit with multiple rereleases over the years. The band's logo depicted a medieval physician wearing an olden mask in order to avoid the plague and other diseases. This demo was singer Mr. Blasphemy's debut. Petrarch’s Ad Seipsum ('To Himself') is a self-addressed poem written around the time of the Black Death of 1348. The phrase 'ad se ipsum' in the title signaled his inward focus, which centred on his reaction to the plague. Petrarch was an Italian poet and an early humanist. The Pest EP of 2007 contained the song Pest (from Ad Se Ipsum) again and the phrase, "Die pest-ära." Bassist Arjan (of Heidens Hart Records of The Netherlands) would join for live work on bass. Arjan was a professional session player jumping in and out of a dozen acts including NeoNazi act Graveland. Tenebris Obortis was the band's last one for a while. Mrok was in a fatal car accident in 2011.
An album of rehearsal material, called Buried and featuring Mrok, was released in absentia in 2014. Heidens Hart began reissuing the albums as of 2019.

As with all band's, Pest reformed and was back on the scene in 2021. Guitarist Brandt was the newest member. Scum was on drums now. Arjan was back as a full member. Werelden Ten Onder/The Ancient Sleep was a split between the band and Cultus in 2024. Heidens Hart Records would release Eternal Nightmares, the sixth full-length by Germany-based black metal band Pest in October of 2025. Per convention, it was recorded and mixed by the band at its rehearsal room.
