History & Biography Black metal band Piołun was founded in 2019. Featuring Polish titles, Rzeki Goryczy was issued in late 2022.
The band and Blaze Of Perdition were both billed for 2024's 25 Sepulchral Years - Live In Montreal in 2024. The band was also booked at the Black Waves Fest back in Poland in 2024. Pending the traditional reformation, Blaze Of Perdition disbanded in the middle of 2025. Commented the band: "In a mutual agreement, we've decided that all is said and done with Blaze Of Perdition... You can follow our future endeavours through Mānbryne or Piołun."
Poland-based Piołun had a new album, called Exolvuntur, through Malignant Voices for 26.05.2026. The band was returning to Germany to play at the Dat Unland Fier.
Piołun means 'wormwood' in Polish, which despite its name is a plant.
Reviews PIOŁUN - EXOLVUNTUR - MALIGNANT VOICES
There is just something about the sound of these black/death metal bands: the tremolo picking, the speed and the aggression are immensely appealing. The guitar tone, with its strong midrange presence, allows every note to be heard and felt while remaining dense and powerful. Infused with plenty of melody and harmonics, the duo attacks its material with conviction. The songs are, by and large, simple constructions, but they are executed effectively and with considerable energy.
Reminiscent especially of acts such as Mascharat and Alkhemia, Piołun is vocally harsh and musically fast-paced for most of the album. The tortured vocal performance is particularly impressive. Moribunda and Hiems, the album's partially slower tracks, feature pounding structures and have very similar, almost identical openings. The former offers a bass-heavy sound toward its conclusion. About 21 minutes into the album, the drums shift into a pulsating beat that adds another dimension to the music. The band is also unafraid to let songs fade out, as if borrowing a technique from pop songwriting. Yet there is little chance of mistaking this for a bid for commercial appeal, given the extreme nature of the music and the use of Polish song titles. - Ali "The Metallian"
