History & Biography
There are certain laws of the universe that apply to heavy metal. Every band must be tattooed and the tattoo must be as generic as possible because it is all about uniformity. Every band must have multiple members who are in multiple bands at the same time because devotion and dedication are foreign words. Every band must write wise lyrics that speak about the ills of the world, but itself has attempted zero to do good. Finally, every country must have a band called Prophecy and in the United States Of America every state must have one (at least).

Observing the law, this Prophecy was founded by James Parks II in Louisiana in 1992 who moved to Texas seeking a new base and line-up in 1995. Parks was born in Texas. He met guitarist Joe Dunlap soon. It Shall Come To Pass was a 1996 debut demo. Phil Holland was on vocals, Joe Dunlap and Parks were on guitar, Jody Stephens was on bass and Craig Sample (formerly ofInterment) was on drums. The band released a promo tape in 1997, which lead to a deal and a debut record in 1998. Foretold…Foreseen was issued in 1998. Trevor Warner was on bass and Hank Thompson was on drums now. The label was Corpse Gristle, which had stemmed fro the magazine of the same name and Incest Underground distribution.

Thompson was replaced by Jeremy Peterson who was new to death metal. The group played at the November To Dismember festival. The band was heard on a split single with Perversist and another with Cryptic. The Cryptic side did not feature the tightest of women on its cover. Yet another split single, this time with Intestinal Infection of Germany, brought the band to 2002 and a new full-length. The group participated at the Extreme Texas Metalfest II in 2004.

The band went on hiatus until its return in 2012. Speaking of which there is another cliché. Every band, person, entity or merchandise from Texas has to use the “Don’t Mess With Texas” line. In reality everyone in Texas is so scared they have to carry guns in their pockets and vote for more nukes. Allen Culmo was on bass. The 2012 demo was called Don’t Fuckin’ Mess With Texas. Trevor Scott joined on drums. Holland left in 2015. The next demo was 2016’s time-twisting The Beginning. Drew Duffy was introduced on the mike. The band issued a full-length DVD called In The Beginning… in 2018. It featured early shows from 1993 and 1994. A 2019 demo was called Foreseen Scriptures. The band announced Bill Engfer as its guitarist in 2021. The group organized and headlined a show with Insufferable Sorcery and others in April 2022. The band was also booked for TXDM Fest XIII, which was a Prophecy production again.

Guitarist Joe Dunlap died in 2017. Former guitarist Jeff Hernandez died in 2019. Several of the band’s releases have been on Parks’ Prophecy Records.
