History & Biography
Pyogenesis’ genesis was the gore metal band Immortal Hate between 1990 and 1991 before changing direction to doom, doom/alternative, alternative/goth and just rock later. The members constituted grinding side-projects in the meantime to satisfy that aspect of their musicianship. The band was active between 1991 and 2007 before throwing in the towel and, like every other band, returning at some point, in this case 2014.

Immortal Hate was founded by singer/guitarist Tim and bassist Joe just before New Year’s Day 1990. The members had met at local Stuttgart club Rockfabrik. The drummer left and Pit was recruited. The name was changed and Flo joined to coincide with the band’s first demo. The band had a demo called Ode To The Churning Seas Of Nar-Mataru in 1991. Part of this demo became the Rise Of The Unholy 7” of 1992 through Mephitic Productions of Mexico before the material was re-issued by Nuclear Beret and years later Iron Bonehead. The Iron Bonehead version of 2021 was issued using the Kabandha monicker as drummer Pit would not authorize the re-release. So the band was named Kabandha for this particular release and moment in time years later.

Postmortem won the Ludwigshafen Underground Competition in May 1992 over bands like Pyogenesis. The group had a 7” called Sacrificious Profanity through the Colombian one-man label Symphonies Of Death Records. The band would later complain about a lack of royalty. Osmose Productions issued the act’s Ignis Creatio EP in late 1992. The French label called the band’s style “doom-wave” and announced that the band is not “playing anymore boring death metal.” Pit was fired due to musical differences and the band began playing shows with a drum machine. The band and Fertilizer played shows in 1993. Pyogenesis also played shows with the Switzerland-based Amon and Germany-based Darkseed and Crematory. The band had signed to Nuclear Blast in the meantime and issued its Waves Of Erotasia and first full-length in November 1994. The departure from Osmose was also stated to be due to musical differences. The EP was supported through a European tour with God Forsaken and Anathema in February 1994. Joe left due to musical differences as well. Roman took his place. Pyogenesis managed to fly to Mexico for a show in April 1995. The sound began to commercialize right after with Twinaleblood. This album was preceded by the Twinaleblood EP either because the woman on the cover was too hot to be seen once or as a promotional release for the press and radio stations. The promotional EP featured two album tracks, an unreleased version of Deepblackdiscotaster and an exclusive version of the old track Lost In Revery. Love Nation Sugarhead was an EP in 1996. The cover featured toiletries and Martin Walkyier of Skyclad made a guest appearance. A video clip of the alternative band was pushed to Viva and MTV. The band toured with Kreator, Grip Inc., Hate Squad and later with Crematory. Unpop was supported through a tour with Waltari, yet Roman had already quit. Tim Eiermann and drummer Wolle Maier left in 1999 to focus on Liquido, which seemingly had a bright commercial future before it. P – The Ultimate Home Video could not be that as it was issued by Nuclear Blast in 2000. P… Or Different Songs In Different Sounds was a compilation of the band’s material re-recorded in 2000. The band and Nuclear Blast said their farewells now. The group became inactive before dissolution because Flo was busy producing and running his label, Hamburg Records, which he had founded in 2002.

The band’s last record pre-dissolution was on Hamburg Records, which belonged to Flo Schwarz. However, upon return and the release of the 2015 album, A Century In The Curse Of Time, the band was on AFM Records. This album was the first of a trilogy about the changing of life, society and technology. In Addition to Flo V. Schwarz, Tim Eiermann was also back. The latter man, however, would depart after only one year leaving Flo as the sole member from the earlier incarnations. The albums featured steampunk artwork. The comeback show took place in Romania. A tour of Germany was announced for February and then again spring of 2022.

The band calls itself “1991 co-inventors of gothic metal.” The word ‘pyogenesis’ refers to the secretion of pus.
