History & Biography
Liverpudlian hard rock band Nutz was founded in 1973 and became Rage in 1980 in time to be considered a NWOBHM band. Nutz had signed with Carrere (Saxon, Dokken and others) out of France and the label persuaded the quartet to pick a new name. Nutz featured keyboardist Kenney Newton otherwise. Newton would later guest on Rage’s second record. Nutz had opened for Black Sabbath and UFO. The singer was found when he appeared on a television commercial for Crunchy. Nutz, and Rage, was helped by DJ Neal Kay who helped the band record music for Metal For Muthas, which would serve as a demo. The group issued a single called Money in 1980. Rage would paint its gear in bright pink to stand apart stylistically. Another single was Out Of Control of 1981. It preceded the full-length. The band opened for Rory Gallagher in 1981 and Uriah Heep in 1982. Nice ‘N’ Dirty of 1982 featured a couple of Metallian Towers’ serfs on its cover Steers joined for this record. Then came an opening slot for Meat Loaf. The members issued a single as Spitfire in 1982, but reverted to Rage. Mulholland joined Demon who had been on Carrere as well. Rage was managed by John Arnison who also managed Marillion.

The band returned in 2004. The impetus was the anniversary of the death of drummer John Mylett in Spain in 1984. He had been in a car accident. This accident was also the end for Rage although the label had already dropped the act. Lloyd would also do backing vocals for Mammoth and Gillan later.

Rumour has it that Mylett was asked to audition for Iron Maiden and refused. Rock Candy reissued the three albums in 2015.
