History & Biography
The band was founded in 2010 and modified its monicker two years later. The name refers to the Christian New Year Period where superstition also has it that the normal forces of nature are suspended and the gates to the spiritual world are flung open. The band changed its name to differentiate itself from its namesakes. The band draws influence from the folklore of its Alpine environment. Either way, its sole protagonist Stefan Traunmüller is in a dozen projects simultaneously.

The debut arrived in late 2010. The music and lyrics were taken from Austrian neofolk band Sturmpercht and modified into a concoction of folk and rock. The two acts had a collaborative EP called Zur ew'gen Ruh in 2014 as well. The first album proper landed on Hammerheart in 2014. The 2017 split release Spukgeschichten - Anciennes Légendes Des Alpes featured three bands, which bore influences from the French, German and Austrian Alps, namely Hanternoz, Tannöd and Rauhnåcht. Unterm Gipfelthron shifted to a new label. Winterstille shifted to a new label. Zwischenwelten was the name for the new full-length by Austria-based solo project Rauhnåcht. It was released through Antiq on August 25, 2025.

Drudensang's 2020 live album was called Rauhnachtszeremonie.
