History & Biography
First there was Action! in Japan. Then there was Reaction, a Tokyo, Japan-based hard rock/power metal band starting in 1983. Several singers came and went, but Kato Junya stuck until the group dissolved in March 1989. Reportedly, Kato was unhappy with the music. The band returned in 2006, but disbanded when drummer Umezawa died. Yet another reformation happened in 2021 with new guitarists and former Anthem and Loudness drummer Homma Hirotsugu. There was a keyboardist too now.

A 1983 demo tape featuring Nishino Takashi on the microphone was followed by a single called Joy Ride courtesy of the local ADK Records. Narusawa Hiroyuki was on vocals. King Records issued the All Night Metal Party ’84 To ’85 album making the group’s debut a live one. Kishimoto “Tomo” Tomohiko was the singer. There was also an accompanying video. Also at the originating show were Sabbrabells, Veil and others.

A young label called Danger Crue/Maverick issued the band’s debut studio album, Insane, that summer. It shifted 10,000 units. Invitation re-issued this album with a new mix and running order. Kato was on vocals. Dead & Live was not just a contradiction, but also a live video in 1987. Mania was also a 1988 live video recorded during the band’s Japanese tour. The band’s last album of the era was Twist And Shout, which not only carried the name of a Top Note and Beatles’ song, but also featured women of the 1950s’ era on its cover. It also sounded like the band has picked party rock as a new style. The record also featured the band’s first ballad.

The return with new singer Kimura Naoki (ex-Body) was marked with the 20090411 (Translation: 11.04.2009) demo. This was also added to an associated DVD. A couple of compilations later came a new and self-cover version CD called Farewell.

Guitarist Saito died in 2008. Guitarist Umezawa died of lung cancer in 2015.
