History & Biography
This Rebellion - there were bands with the monicker already in Germany and Japan and another one was already active in Portugal – was founded by former Grave Diggers Uwe Lulis and Tomi Goettlich in 2001. They wanted to hold on to the Grave Digger monicker, but Chris Boltendahl of that band would not abide and lawyers began drafting their letters.

Rebellion was a power metal band and rebelling musically, but lyrically adopted conservative European themes of Vikings and mainstream Shakespearean stories. Tomi was previously in a band called Asgard.

Drakkar signed the band and released Shakespeare's Macbeth - A Tragedy In Steel in 2002. This was a concept record obviously. Michael Seifert sang, Uwe Lulis and Björn Eilen strummed, Tomi Göttlich strummed on lesser strings and Randy Black was travelling between his many gigs. The group appeared at Wacken in 2002. The group opened for Running Wild and UDO and played festivals like Metal Daze and Bang Your Head. Black was asked to leave Rebellion when he began gigging with Primal Fear. The second record was exceptionally not a concept. The band switched to Massacre Records for its third record. This meant that the Vikings of Iceland received no publicity in Germany. Gerd Lücking was on drums. Miklagard featured Uwe and Simone Wenzel on guitars. The group played the Summer Breeze festival in 2006 and 2010. A 2010 Grave Digger release was called The Clans Will Rise Again and a video called The Clans Are Still Marching in 2011, which featured the song Rebellion. Rebellion (The Clans Are Marching) was also a 1996 Grave Digger song. Rebellion had an EP called The Clans Are Marching in 2009 featuring Grave Digger music.

The third in the trilogy of the Vikings was issued in 2009 and entitled Arise: From Ginnungagap To Ragnarök - The History Of The Vikings Volume III. Oliver Geibig, Stephan Karut and Matthias Karle arrived for Arminius: Furor Teutonicus. Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking had departed at the end of 2010. Uwe and Gerd founded the heavy metal band Giftdwarf. A guitarist called David Faifer was in and out in 2011. Timo Schneider was the next drummer, but he was heard on one record before giving way to Tommy Telkemeier. We Are The People featured guest appearances by Uwe Lulis, who also produced, and Simone Wenzel and arrived in the summer of 2021. It featured Martin Giemza and Fabrizio Costantino on guitar and the traditional new drummer, Sven Tost. The pandemic had cancelled concerts earlier that year. The band toured Iberia using the We Are The People in 2022. Not coincidentally, - X - Live In Iberia, which was recorded in Valencia, Spain, appeared in the spring of 2023. Simultaneously, the band uploaded a track called Odin. The act was playing sporadic concerts and was booked for Metal Garage 2024 alongside Wizard and Iron Echo. Bassist Tomi joined label-mates Thornbridge in 2023.
