History & Biography Reckless was a contemporary of Exciter (called Hell Razor at this juncture) and also founded in Ottawa the capital of Canada in 1978. Madden had founded the band as Harlow. Harvest Records, which had Scorpions under contract, signed the hard rock band out of the UK and issued a self-titled record in 1980. Paul Gross, who owned Scarborough, Toronto’s Phase One studio, produced this record. Harvest/Capitol in Canada had earlier declined to sign the band and was now in charge of distributing and promoting the record in the band’s home country! Regardless, Victim Of Time was a single. The debut was supported through a tour of Germany. The band opened for Iron Maiden in Toronto, Canada.
The band cut a demo in 1982 and re-appeared with a new record on Heavy Metal Records for the UK and Quality Records in Canada. The band’s line-up had undergone an upheaval inclusive of featuring a male singer now. Heart Of Steel was announced as Midnight Reign initially. It was the name of a demo track. The song Hot ‘N Ready was pressed as a single and the band dissolved shortly thereafter, but not before management had kicked out the group’s founder. A proposed third record called Like A Thief In The Night with a keyboardist called Bob and bassist called Nick Brewerton never transpired. Madden attempted a renewal with Steve Madden’s Reckless.
