History & Biography Red Right Hand was an obscure USA-based crossover band beginning 1998 that was on Locomotive Records and, as a result, received as much publicity as a rap mogul at a Deicide concert. There was a self-titled 1999 demo and, after adding a second guitarist and new bassist, a sole album. The album had been in the can for six years. The group had also appeared at the Milwaukee Metal Fest. The 1999 demo featured bassist Rob Leo who was replaced by Anthony Mann. Mann was replaced by Distrust’s Travis Horton who was merely filling in. The band was compiling an odds and ends compilation in 2015, which did not materialize.
Red Right Hand is also the title for a Nick Cave song from 1994. Tim Koukos, who owned Screaming Ferret Wreckords, was a member.
Reviews RED RIGHT HAND - PLOTTING YOUR DEATH - SCREAMING FERRET/LOCOMOTIVE
Red Right Hand is the band of the owner of Screaming Ferret Wreckords and at its core takes a few cues from Exodus and Testament. The singer is the most analogous with a voice that is a mix of Souza and Billy. The music, however, is nowhere near as good. The vicious evil of Exodus’ riffs is missing. The band has very few solos and the few that are heard are more noise solos than anything else. The East Coast thrashers are hardly Testament either. So, why is this writer giving the band an above average grade? The purity and aggression of thrash metal is largely intact. The band is aggressive in its sound, the thrashing never ceases, it is unrelenting and, yes, a few slamming beats really help. What Red Right Hand needs is more quality riffs, a guitarist who can deliver ripping leads and, for Gandalf’s sake never allow the vocalist to rap as he does on the song Funk. The song, incidentally, begins with a patented Megadeth riff.
Red Right hand, ultimately, is more Faith Or Fear or Meliah Rage than Exodus and Testament, but fans of the Bay Area sound will still find much to like. - Ali “The Metallian”
