History & Biography
Guitarist Aaron Zimpel, bassist Nathan Harlow and drummer Steve Kilgore quit their band in late 1991 leaving a singer they claimed had low aspirations. Gary Wendt of Sacrilege BC answered an advertisement in a magazine called BAM, Zimpel took over the microphone as well and the group, in defiance of the Danish band with the same monicker, named itself Release.

After demo releases including 1994’s self-titled one, Century Media signed the band and a record was issued in 1995. Metal Maniacs magazine had called the band “… the Bay Area’s most promising new act” and true to its track record the group went nowhere and disappeared. True to form of band’s touting their diversity and not being fully metal and blend of sounds and modernity the group went nowhere and disappeared. What fans want and the anti-metal purity industry wants is evidently in perpetual clash.

Zimpel died of cancer in 2019.
