History & Biography Heavy metal act Rival was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA in the summer of 1990. The members were in cover bands with one another previously. A self-titled demo came out in 1991. The band went on hiatus until 2000’s Modern World demo. The recording for the demo was interrupted when the band changed studios and producers in its quest for a better sound. The band was part of the Headbangers Open Air with Twisted Tower Dire, Iron Cross, Ritual Steel, Slough Feg, etc. which took place in Hamburg, Germany in June 2002. The band also played at Bang Your Head festival. These appearances were facilitated through positive reviews for the demo in Germany.
Rival finished recording its Metal Blade debut State Of Mind in February of 2004. The band was described as power metal. That did not work out either so the band became inactive. 2018 brought a demo called Prophecy, which Underground Power Records rereleased in 2019. The band opened for Vicious Rumors in 2019.
