History & Biography
Rogue Male was born in 1983, with guitarist Phil Aston of The Handsome Beasts, bassist Chris Aylmer formerly of Samson and drummer Kingsley, and issued an album in 1987. The main man had moved from Ireland to London, England. Jim Lyttle actually had several acts in London as precursors to Rogue Male beginning in 1980. The debut album was a Motörhead-influenced cracker, was well publicised and given a good push through advertising by Music For Nations. Ironically, the album’s cover depicted an android. This matched the act’s sci fi-cum-Mad Max image. Elektra licensed the record for the USA. The track All Over You included the words “rogue male.” The band toured both sides of the Atlantic including opening for Lemmy and company. The US club tour was not a success. The second album followed the first by a year. Even so it featured a new rhythm section. Tracks Like Belfast (also a single) and The Job Centre were socially conscious. Lyttle hailed from Belfast in Northern Ireland. The promotion went AWOL, but the group toured the UK in support of the second album. The band disappeared after falling out with its label-cum-management Martin Hooker of Music For Nations. This was the reason for the absence of a band Lyttle had actually intended to keep going. Demos were sent to other labels to no avail. Following several years of legal skirmishes Lyttle regained the rights to the band.

The reformation came in 2008 featuring only Jim Lyttle. Nail It was a 2009 demo through the RM2K imprint. It featured guitarist Bernie Tormé and bassist John McCoy (both from Gillan and Mammoth) however. Rogue Male was booked for the Hard Rock Hell Festival III in 2009. John Fraiser-Binnie rejoined in 2010. Many musicians, including two members of Hell’s Belles, came and went here. The band was playing a one-off live concert in Norway in 2015. The next demo arrived in 2021 only. It was called Hard Case. Drummer Danny Fury was back here.

Rogue Male was a political thriller novel from 1939 and was also a film in the 1970s.
