History & Biography The heavy metal band was active between 1988 and 2024 although the Rome, Italy-based band went on hiatus between 2004 and 2007. ‘Cross Of Rose,’ which referred to Rosicrucianism, a mystical Christian movement focusing on reforming humanity that originated in 17th Century Germany, was founded by Andrea Magini and Igor Baccei with the two trying their hands at cover versions. The obvious influence was Death SS.
The first demo was called Il Re Del Mondo (‘The King Of The World’) and appeared in 1991. The lyrics were in Italian. The next one only appeared in 1997. It was named Fede Potere Vendetta (‘Faith Power Revenge’). Promo 1999 and 2001’s Bran Mak Morn followed. The members claimed they had tattooed the group’s logo on their shoulders. On the other hand the founders tattooed Death To False Metal on their arms.
The band signed with Scarlet Records and out came the full-length Worms Of The Earth in 2003. It was based on the fantasy short story Worms Of The Earth by Robert E. Howard. One of the American author’s recurring characters was king Bran Mak Morn incidentally whose song re-appeared on the record. Catacomb and Novembre drummer Giuseppe Orlando was a guest on the record and supported the band at a few gigs. The man had produced the record at his studio. The group opened for Manilla Road, Doomsword and Battle Ram in 2002. The band went on hiatus, but returned only to recycle the Il Re Del Mondo title.as an early exercise of self-cover version-ism. Piero Arioni was on drums. The act played at Headbangers Open Air 2004. The group was billed at the Total Metal Festival in Bari, Italy in 2008. The band doubled down on recycling with 2009’s Fede Potere Vendetta. The group was booked for Jolly Roger Fest in 2009. The band became the de facto leader of Italian environmental recycling conglomerata by churning out Fede Potere Vendetta - Overlord Edition, which was the English version of the same name. The boys were not going to stop there. Oh no. The 2010 EP, Venarium, added a couple of live tunes to tracks from the, er, Overlord Edition. Jolly Roger Records was seemingly still standing and solvent.
The band turned its gaze to Freemasonry and released Massoneria in 2014. This was on a new label of course. Incidentally, some believe Rosicrucianism influenced Freemasonry. The group appeared at Metal Italia Festival 2018 before going offline around 2024.
Reviews ROSAE CRUCIS - FEDE POTERE VENDETTA - OVERLORD EDITION - JOLLY ROGER
These Italian heavy metal mavens have apparently re-issued this album in English a year following the initial release in their native tongue. The material stems from a 1997 demo, but is now recorded for this release and Jolly Roger.
The cover artwork and the members’ photographs leave no doubt where the band’s head and heart is at, namely pure glorious heavy metal. The material is solid and workmanlike, but leaves some to be desired. The band is obviously influenced by Manowar and Hammerfall, but the music is nowhere as bad as the former or as good as the latter. The album benefits from good guitar work which occasionally means frenzied soloing. Thankfully, unlike Manowar, the disc features actual music, although for a while one would doubt that since it is not until track three, that things get going. The Manofallers have enough material to justify moving forward, but need a better sound and more action to elevate themselves. - Ali “The Metallian”
