History & Biography
The Moscow-based folk-ish thrash act was founded in early 1995, but first heard through the Grotesque demo of 1997. The founders were singer and drummer Vlad and guitarist Lazar. Both were also in Stonehenge, which was another band with keyboards. Vlad and Lazar did not get along and only Lazar had stayed. Still, the two would share music in other acts. The demo was recorded at his house. The group called its music “unholy Aryan black metal.” The debut record arrived in 1999. It was dubbed a demo at first as well. The keyboards were one feature. A renamed cover version of a Metallica song was another. Lyrics were by another advocate of Aryan this, European power that called Herr Stalhammar who ran the Vae Solis webzine. The man talked about black people as a plague and referred to bananas, but kept most of his ire for Jews. The band toured Russia in 2000. At this point, with members coming and going, the line-up was almost the same as Der Gerwelt and Аркона/Arkona, another folk band. Xtreem handled the second record. A concert in Ukraine was cancelled when Lazar reported his passport had been stolen. The group announced it would incorporate an orchestra for Regnum Somni. Live and Die in Moscow tagged on a few cover versions.

Drummer Vlad rejoined in 2004 and would stay until 2015. Moscow (The Sanguine Reign Of Terror) was a 2006 demo. The Sanguine Live In Terror was a live video recorded in 2006 and issued in 2007. The act was invited to Germany’s Rock For Roots Festival in 2007, Perunica Fest II and Metal Front Festival in Armenia in 2008. Moscow (The Sanguine Reign Of Terror) II was a 2010 demo. The band put it together in 2010 with The Reign Of Terror. Some inactivity followed. The band gravitated away from metal by recruiting someone called Vladimir "Volk" to play bagpipes and the flute. Drummer Andrey Ischenko joined the band, but then again he never said no to a couple of quick rubles. Next in was drummer Alexander Smirnov. The band was playing live again in 2023.

The band's name is derived from ‘rosomakha', which is a wolverine in Russian.

Reviews

ROSSOMAHAAR - QUAERITE LUX IN TENERIS... - XTREEM
Rossomahaar is likely the best-known underground metal band from Russia. The disappointingly derivative delivery does damage to that country's musical reputation. Protestations of a weak sound aside, the revamped line-up for this re-release (the album was originally released by an irrelevant Russian label) is not about to receive praise for its musicianship. The riffs are underdeveloped and conspicuously masked by an overpowering keyboard layer. The drum is actually a machine, and for good reason. The actual drummer's beats are an embarrassment. The vocalist has overfed on a diet of Rotting Christ and consequently prefers the 'screaming whisper' style to an actually strong performance. Ever heard of the saying, can't judge a book by its cover? Quaerite is adorned with a great cover artwork. - Ali "The Metallian"
