History & Biography
Rot is a grindcore band since 1990 that split up in 2008 before reappearing in 2012. The founders were singer Marcelo and guitarist Mendigo. The 1991 demo Prisoner Of My Fear established the act’s penchant for shorter tracks. Fucker Records released the Almighty God 7”. The songs were included in the Cruel Face Of Life album, which was released by Morbid Records of Germany.

Give Praise Records issued Rot’s Old Dirty Grindcores 2007-1991 compilation album in 2016, which the label believed included all the studio work of the Brazilian grind band. The band quickly cornered the split release market to the point that it is said that search engines have banned searching for the number of such releases because it may break their algorithm. Still, the band didn’t forget the annual EPs either. Even during the act’s absence the split releases and EPs kept coming. The returning members were singer Marcelo (who left in 2016), guitarist Mendigo and bassist Alex. The latter would die of COVID-19 in 2021. Alex had been the proprietor of Bucho Discos. At this time Brazil had a president who acted like a little Trump and had called the pandemic “a little flu.” The band was booked for Obscene Extreme in 2019.

Henrick took over the vocals in 2016 and the band added a second singer called Borella. He and bassist Diego were in Social Chaos. The band was booked for Setembro Negro Festival 2022 in Brazil. Rot was billed for Obscene Extreme Festival 2025.
