History & Biography For a moment it looked like Rottrevore could become a death metal force like Incantation or Immolation, but it was not to be. The band, with Swedish influences, instead became an insider's tip following a disbandment, the usual reformations and a lack of a stable line-up. Founder Mastro had edited the Infernal Bleeding fanzine prior. Weber had been in Chaotic Plague.
The band was founded in 1989 and issued the June 1990 demo The Epitome Of Pantalgia (featuring drummer Nick Esquivel), the Copulation Of The Virtuous And Vicious 7" through Relapse, which featured a demo song self-cover version, and another 7" called Fornication In Delirium in 1992. These culminated in the Iniquitous full-length in 1993, which the band reported having recorded in two days. Mark Mastro sang and played guitar, Chris Weber did the same, Chris Free was on bass and Jason Graham drummed. This was it and the band broke up in December 1995 citing "life." Actually Weber and Mastro were not getting along. Chris Free had already left and the band was also without a drummer. Chris Weber pursued a solo project.
Except, everyone knows how the story goes. There was a rumour of a reformation in 2009 to play the New Jersey Death Metal Fest. The return occurred in 2011. The band was Chris Weber, Chris Free and drummer Christian Easley. In the meantime, sixteen years following its original release, Xtreem Music was re-issuing Iniquitous. This album was originally released in late 1993 by Drowned Productions (predecessor to Xtreem Music) with the label claiming that only 1,000 copies were pressed before the label’s metamorphosis to Repulse Records (again pre-Xtreem Music). Blind Sided Attack was a 2012 demo, which Drowned's successor Xtreem Music repressed. This happened despite a Rottrevore member accusing Drowned of messing up badly with the full-length. The group had recorded this with Hate Eterna's Erik Rutan. Next was 2013's Hung By The Eyesockets, which was a rerelease of the 2012 demo, but on Xtreem. The band was booked for the NY Deathfest 2013 and flew to Europe to appear at Kill-Town Death Fest in Denmark. A slew of musicians came. A slew of musicians left. Drummer Christian Easley from 1995 was back for a year, but had departed as well. He was replaced by Jesse McLaughlin. He, in turn, was replaced by Jared Altamare and so it went. The group announced a US mini-tour with Ritual Mass and Vaamatar.
The turn of the century brought a Rottrevore Records based in Indonesia. It was affiliated with the Rottrevore fanzine. Mastro is an artist who, aside from Rottrevore's art, is responsible for art and logos for acts like Immolation and Derketa.
