History & Biography Vallda-based Sacrilege was around for five years beginning 1993 before disbanding. A modified band name reappeared in 2006 promising a new album, called A Matter Of Dark, that never materialised. Fact was, there were never enough songs written for a new album. GBG stood for Gothenburg and was affixed to the returnees' monicker.
The band was formed by Daniel Dinsdale (guitar) and Daniel Svensson (vocals and drums) just south of Gothenburg. A couple of members were shown the door by the time 1995 rolled around and the To Where Light Can´t Reach demo was out. This demo contained a song called Sacrilege. The 1996 demo was called ....and Autumn Failed. This was recorded at Studio Fredman and brought a contract from Black Sun Records. The gang returned to Studio Fredman and recorded an album called Lost In The Beauty You Slay. The record gathered plaudits and was appreciated by the press and even other musicians.
The Fifth Season offered more of everything. Michael Andersson was gone. The label described it as having "psychotic dimensions." The band toured Germany with The Crown. To allow Daniel Svensson to focus on the drums, At The Gates' Tomas Lindberg sang during the trek. Daniel Svensson helped In Flames’ guitarist Jesper Strömblad with vocals for a Dimension Zero song destined for a covers' album. The two were introduced by their mutual acquaintance at Studio Fredman. This contribution led to Svensson being recruited to drum for In Flames. That band's drummer had moved to guitar. Sacrilege tried to replace its singer and drummer, but threw in the towel. Kvist briefly joined Eternal Grief before recording with Taetre.
The band was founded roughly a decade after Sacrilege from Great Britain. Amusingly, the Swedes' logo approximated the Brits' one.

The Fifth Season, the second full-length by Sweden's deathsters Sacrilege, begins exactly where its debut of 1996 left off. Even if the vocal duties have in the meanwhile been passed on to drummer Daniel Svensson the band is treading the same raging waters as that disc here. Propelled forth by waves of intertwined melody and aggression, the album opener Moonlight is specially remarkable in its smooth metal composition. Despite an increasing depth in melody with the album's progression, the album remains consistent in delivering quality Gothenburg-style metal. The quartet does sink into a couple of Metallica-esque acoustic pieces reminiscent of Slaughter Of The Soul, yet proves that along with Crown Of Thorns, Centinex and others it is a name to watch for. - Ali "The Metallian"
