History & Biography
Founded a short while after Chile-based Sadism, which itself was named Sadist initially, this band came together in 1991, disbanded in 2001 and, like everyone else, reformed. In this case, the reformation was in 2005. Drummer Peso, who founded Sadist, had founded Necrodeath and was in this band while the latter act was off duty. Sadist was founded a year after Necrodeath's demise. Necrodeath too reformed.

Peso began auditioning members. The deathrash band was based in Genoa and issued a single called Black Screams in 1991. The sound was bad, but the band shifted 2,500 copies. Wild Rags issued a cassette version of the single. The band was singer Fabio (who departed due to the standard "personal problems", guitarist/keyboardist Tommy, bassist Andy and drummer Peso. Several demos, Live In France, Musicians Against Yuppies (with one song) and Promo 1993, followed. The band ventured onto stages in Italy, Portugal and France. Nosferatu Records released the band's debut. The parties had signed a two-album deal. Fabio was gone and Andy Marchini was also singing. This album had some success in the underground and propelled the band name to the upper echelon of the deathrash scene. The debut album was called "Orchestral progressive death opera" by the label. Schizo's singer and bassist Alberto Penzin was the producer. Sadist opened for Carcass. Zanna was singing on Tribe. Chicco was on bass. The gang appeared on a Japanese Iron Maiden tribute CD with a cover version of the song Wrathchild. Crust was issued on the Dutch Displeased Records. Trevor Nadir was on vocals now. Oinos was drumming. The Japanese edition added cover versions of A-ha's Take On Me and Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The band appeared at Wacken and reported it to be the first appearance by an Italian band there. Lego was on yet another label and, of course, had a new member credited. Alessio was drumming. And what was that on the cover of an album that was leaning mallcore? The album was not well received and the band only released something seven years later.after the reformation. Early singer Fabio Bocchiddi had briefly returned before the band disbanded.

Andy Marchini had returned to the fold and handled his bass guitar again. Season In Silence was on the Scarlet Records label, as was its follow-up Hyaena. The album featured African rhythms and a Senegalese percussionist called Jean N'Diaye. Sadist, Virgin Snatch and Crionics toured in 2010. The group also appeared at the Highland Metalfest and Rock The Borders shows. Spellbound was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's works. The band was a part of Morbidfest 2019, with I Am Morbid, in 2019. Firescorched saw the band work with Agonia Records. The changes here saw the band become a trio of singer Trevor Nadir, guitarist and keyboardist Tommy Talamanca and session drummer Romain Goulon. Sadist had a self-cover version of the song Breathin’ Cancer for the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album, Above The Light, in 2023. A Christmas 2024 EP was called Jugular Bells. Sadist was the headliner for the second day of the ProgPower Europe festival in The Netherlands in 2024. The band was presenting its new album The band was also playing several festivals that summer. Then came the album Something To Pierce in 2025. It was the group's tenth full-length. There was a video clip for the song Something To Pierce. Only Tommy and Trevor had remained, but there were several guest appearances including a female singer (who was also heard on Firescorched). The band was utilising concert musicians beginning in 2023. Several Sadist members reunited in Crystal Sun in 2024. A leg of Obscura's A Sonication World Tour in Europe in late 2025 had Suicidal Angels, Hideous Divinity and Sadist in tow. Sadist recorded a cover version of Keith Emerson's Mater Tenebrarum, originally composed as the soundtrack to Dario Argento’s movie Inferno, at the same time. For the 30th anniversary of the Tribe album, Sadist was to give a series of shows in which the entire album would be performed live in 2026. Sadist was booked to headline Metalitalia.com fest in 2026.

The singer ran Nadir Music where he offered photography and produced audio and video works.

Reviews

SADIST - CRUST - DISPLEASED
Upon release of its debut album on Nosferatu Records Italy's Sadist was instantly heralded by its label as the biggest thing since Tortellini. Similarly, Displeased Records showers accolades upon the penne keyboard rockers like there is no tomorrow. Phrases like "original", "unbreakable", "outstanding" and a "fresh drive" poured like spaghetti on a Wednesday night. Sadist, however, are best described as a cross between the thrash metal of Voi Vod and Coroner-gone-synthesizer crazy. In fact, there were reports that the band planned on incorporating two keyboardists a couple of years back. Imagine the poster in the city centre. "In concert! Depeche Mode with special guests Sadist." Now you know where this bunch draw their influences from. - Ali "The Metallian"
