Reviews SAINTED SINNERS - HIGH ON FIRE - ROAR
As I started listening to Sainted Sinners' album number five, High On Fire, my initial impression was that both the song quality and the band's style drifts and my grade was going to be a, still respectable, 60/100. So many listens later, the album grew on me and I realized the band's core sound leans toward Whitesnake and Badlands. The tracks here still run the gamut of everything from Craft to Cheap Trick to Deep Purple, but there is an authentic feel to High On Fire that belongs to the experienced musicians themselves.
Crown Of Thorns is catchy. Out Of The Blue features awkwardly programmed drums, keyboards and a guitar that is almost hesitant to join in. It could pass as an Autograph track. Night After Night's keyboards are like The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again. The solo is decent and a nice bridge while the vocals are impressive. The main riff, though, feels lifted off Def Leppard. Jack Meille (also of Tygers Of Pan Tang) has two tones and his high pitch is the good one. Sunshine is funky and belongs to the RHCP heap. With Empty Days Of Wonder the band hops back to the glammy side of Whitesnake while Hide In The Dark has a folky, Classical, happy, melancholy, pop and mainstream potential! Yup, everything. Oh, and nifty bass. Then there is Lost In A Storm, which is grunge. As you see, it is a compilation of styles that live here plus AI video and artwork of devilishly voluptuous women courtesy of musicians where just a couple still sport slightly long hair. - Sheila Wes Det
