Reviews SERENADE - THE SERPENTS DANCE - GOLDEN LAKE
A sombre and Slayer-esque intro speeds up into a death/thrash piece
reminiscent of Cerebral Fix and Benediction. The band slows down on
several
occasions to incorporate more melodic and quiet moments often with a
guitar
harmony behind it. The vocals, courtesy of Mithras' Rayner Coss, are
suitably gruff and reminiscent of former Benediction singer David
Ingram.
The drumming is underwhelming. Lacking any type of excitement and
content
with follower status, the drummer here has ample room to improve. The
guitar
riffs and harmonies are really the band's best attribute and often
interesting to hear. Despite the band's name, Serenade is not another
'atmospheric' UK export. There is little on The Serpents Dance that you
haven't heard before. Rather the Scottish act sticks with the tried and
true
death and thrash metal perfected down in England.
