Reviews SERENITY - WORDS UNTOLD & DREAMS UNLIVED - NAPALM
I was really looking forward to hearing some metal. It would have been nice to hear something real and powerful after a few hard days, but instead this poseur of a disc is what befalls me. Serenity is one of the numerous bands (on Napalm Records) that somehow, somewhere began believing its mix of pop music and prog is heavy metal and ran with the idea. The album’s first song is called Canopus 3 and is easily described as a cloned mixture of Kamelot’s Nights Of Arabia (Arabic melodies intact) and Freedom Call. With loads of boring keyboards and meaningless guitars in-between the album drags until the end where Thriven rips off another known band of the scene, Dream Theater. I suppose a bunch of newtards will call this metal which is nonsense. Another group will call this 'progressive' despite a complete lack of anything new.
Can anyone tell me what gives? - Anna Tergel
