Reviews SEVERE TORTURE - MISANTHROPIC CARNAGE - HAMMERHEART
Severe Torture is a Dutch death metal band which traces its routes to Centurian. If the cover art depicting a mutilated female in the hands of demonic butcher does not make things clear, songs like Carnivorous force, Your Blood Is Mine and Blinded I Slaughter will soon reveal that the listener will get a good dosage of highly effective brutal death metal. Cannibal Corpse influences abound and the quartet sticks to the death metal paradigm. The gang's resolve and commitment to its art shines through though - which makes all the difference in death metal every time. Those looking for real death metal have the nod of Metallian Towers to initiate their own Misanthropic Carnage. - Ali "The Metallian"
SEVERE TORTURE - BLOODLETTING - CANDLELIGHT
Even if one is not familiar with a band song titles like Feces For Jesus and Decomposing Bitch should give a clear indication about their sound and style and Bloodletting doesn’t disappoint. Releasing live albums may not be the best idea for raw death metal bands. Even though such power comes through any medium naturally the sound is rarely clear enough to make a full impact, so perhaps it is not surprising that extras are included on such live releases. Bloodletting features the 1998 demo Baptized In Virginal Liquid and a cover of Pestilence’s Lost Souls. The five song demo is a blasting onslaught and includes titles like Till The End, Lambs Of A God and Taking Down The Descender. In describing Severe Torture’s sound Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Malevolent Creation are the first three names that come to mind, while the demo tracks add a bit of early Kreator and Pestilence. A studio album is planned for 2005 and if the band continue on this path they can expect the approval of all true metal fans. - Anna Tergel
