Reviews SLOWMOTION APOCALYPSE - MY OWN PRIVATE ARMAGEDDON - SCARLET
Funny how the best one can accord to My Own Private Armageddon is a mere sixty out of a hundred. The music is a fine blend of death and thrash, the pace is brisk, the leads spot-on, the vocals more guttural than the average singing in the genre and the disc even features a couple of bonus tracks and a video. Well, allow me to explain.
As good as the songs are, there is not a single original bone in the Italian band’s body. The entire thing can and has been heard on many a Gothenburg-based album. Even more ominous is how the best tracks are the bonus ones (only on the Scarlet Records version), which are tagged at the disc’s end and culled from the group’s 2002 demo. It just cannot bode well when the best songs are the oldest ones. Endurance Trial is probably the album’s best, My Future Is Burning has a killer lead attack and Bloodrust is not far behind. The rest of the tracks are not bad at all, although the opening intro and the follow-up track feature a hint of keyboards n the background. These are also the more original songs. The older songs do hint at Exodus, but that is a whole lot better than even more Gothenburg-styled riffs and chord progressions.
Slowmotion Apocalypse should keep up the speed, drift back to its demo days' heavier sound, work on its own sound and maintain those amazing solos. - Anna Tergel
