SPEARHEAD - SPEARHEAD OF IRON WILL - REGIMENTAL
While this advance CD comes to us at Metallian Towers bearing the band name Yersinia Pestis to the best of my knowledge the actual album will be released under the group’s new monicker. Whatever the band and Regimental Records decide to eventually do one thing will probably not change. That being the band’s speedy and venomous black metal. Taking its cues from the likes of Gorgoroth and Revenge this material is heavy and vicious without losing its tunefulness. Much of that is owing to the melodic and interesting leads scattered throughout the album. Two of my favourite songs Dominion and Aftermath have this trait. The drummer, while blasting and wonderfully swift, has a terribly light and hollow sound. Please get a heavy snare sound next time.
Rumour (and the lyrics, samples and imagery) has it that the band is either fascistic or generally very right wing. If true, and remembering that there is no accounting for stupidity, let’s hope the band fixes its narrow-minded ideology along with the snare. Keep the extreme music though. - Anna Tergel
