STAINLESS - LADY OF LUST AND STEEL - HIGH ROLLER
My verdict? AC/DC meets Blue Öyster Cult, meets early Iron Maiden and 1970s Scorpions, but is that really a woman singing? Drummer Charlie Koryn is in a million bands, but surprisingly has not lost his will or creativity and, like the rest of the band, delivers an action-packed total 1970s-1980s metallic trip - as if the album's title didn't give it away.
The superlative Whorefrost (Hoarfrost?) is, my goodness, truly vintage-quality stuff. When did these guys write this? It feels as if the band wrote these tunes around 1983, kept them in the vault only to emerge and uncork them in 2026! This surprises with a hard rock of mega authentic proportions. Plainly put, I like the vocals, the riffs and these melodies. (Don't Cross Me) Fool is Billy Squier meets Whitesnake... with David Coverdale's retirement making the band's timing impeccable. The lady is only a car, and consequently, not the band's best track. Danger In The Night contains an older generation solo, the kind that hits the spot for any hard-and-heavy metaller. Hit 'repeat' on this one. Take A Listen Mama is a slow, bluesy song that evokes Kingdom Come musically and especially vocally. One could almost call it a rip-off of the Germans' song Stargazer. Vitamin Tease shows the band comes with a pinch of humour, one assumes, with lyrics that make one smile: "Doctor doctor / Calling doctor tease / I'm breaking out / Need a shot of sleaze…" Billy Squier never had lyrics this good. The song ends with a page of "Mr Byrum, doctor's ready to see you now." Rough Justice ends the album and picks up the pace. It is essentially a mixture of Iron Maiden's first two albums, Torch and a bluesy rocker… a totally fun listen.
Someone deigned to censor the cover - featuring a Metallian Towers' serf - with a PG-13 version of the artwork. He/she must be nature-hating. It is disappointing to give permission for a serf who works at Metallian Towers to model and then have her be censored. Make sure your album has the right cover because inside this is a cool collection of songs both qualitatively and stylistically surprisingly for the year 2026.
I give the cover artwork a DD and the album overall a mark of 80/100. - Ali "The Metallian"
