Bearer Of The Crimson Flame. A Hammerfall clone? No. A Lithuanian depressive black metal band with doom tendencies and a Norwegian monicker? Yes.
If Xasthur would meet Burzum somewhere in the middle the sound would probably be something like this. The band does have actual riffing and raspy vocals, but the one-man nature of things and emphasis on mood over technical substance is apparent. For this band to work the listener must appreciate the spoken words, meditative strums and interludes as well as extreme metallic elements that bake and brood with very little in the way of upbeat or faster power. Listening to Svartthron is agonizing for some and agonizing for others - each in its own way. - Anna Tergel
