Reviews SWALLOW THE SUN - THE MORNING NEVER CAME - FIREBOX
Swallow The Sun is a new Finnish band with an affinity for everything that is dark. Not a farfetched assumption if one pays attention to the band's name, the album's title or the haunting cover artwork, but the imagery extends to the act's music and lyrics.
Swallow The Sun plays the type of music often referred to as atmospheric metal. The songs are long and even longer on brooding melody. The vocalist concentrates on deep growls, although a more clean voice is also present. The band's emphasis is on heavy riffs, but the listener also hears the backing keyboards often as well. It is safe to say that fans of bands like My Dying Bride, Anathema and late Tiamat will find joy - how ironic - in this album. Having said that, nothing the Finns do is provocative in an innovative sense. The band is happy to ride the wave created originally by the aforementioned bands. It is a competent and accurate replication of the band's fathers. - Ali "The Metallian"
