Reviews TEMPLE OF BAAL - LIGHTSLAYING RITUALS - AGONIA
The cover artwork for Temple Of Baal makes one anxious. The French band is dubbed 'black metal' and has a mysterious and paranormal field of energy on its cover. Not another Blut Aus Nord, please! Thankfully, not. Lightslaying Rituals is sheer thrashing black metal rage. In fact, and if anything, the album cover is reminiscent of Crypt Of Kerberos’ World Of Myths.
Baal should be proud of his followers for they have devised a rage of an album. The Baalists slay the light with a rapid-fire style of blasphemy that is topped with a throaty litany that concludes in a growl. The fast pace is greatly abetted by periodic guitar solos and a raucous bass sound that comes to the fore not often enough. The core of the music is precise and militaristic staccato riffs. There is little regard here for pace, affection, love or compromise. The music is comparable to several modern Swedish death metal bands, but remains well within the realm of Satan’s favourite, black metal. The perfect Christmas gift for your local Oklahoma evangelist! - Ali “The Metallian”
