THE FALLEN - FRONT TOWARD ENEMY - METAL BLADE
Bill Metoyer has gotten The Fallen a big sound, but that does not compensate for the many holes in The Fallen's music. The Fallen were the winners of MP3.com's Metal Search 2000 contest and consequently have been awarded a recording contract with Metal Blade Records. Sadly, the cooperation will be short-lived. Formed in 1992, The Fallen is greatly influenced by Metallica, Arise-era Sepultura and latter-day Exodus. The influences are obvious, overt and sadly lacking appeal. The throaty vocals, unimaginative drums and thrashy stop-and-go rhythms have seen better days and better bands. While we are on the topic of derivative elements, will someone write in and explain the fascination of California bands with the phrase 'rise above' which The Fallen puts through its paces once again. Bonus redundancy: hidden music at the end of the CD.
