THE MALICE - LEGIONS OF THE DAWN - SATANATH
This full-length debut was released as a demo in 2019 under The Unholy Communion title. The Malice is mainly a project of Hubertus Liljegren and Claudio Enzler under the Nur-Adad and Samsu-Iluna pseudonyms. This qualifies The Malice as a Swedish German band. The band foregoes an intro and jumps straight and fast into The Heirs Ov Sekhmet. It is simply a death metal song that tries to add technical elements. Cannibal Corpse is a somewhat straightforward comparison, in vocals as well. The band gain points for keeping a no-nonsense transition between songs. This quickness starts with the second song called Witchery. The songs aren't really distinguishable. The relatively few technical elements aren't really natural and don't always, as is often the case when bands seem to force so called variations, fit. The pace and tempo is kept up well and is another positive for Legions Of The Dawn. The - not nearly enough of them - solos are of course another positive. Songs such as Paimon ratchet up the tempo half a gear and manage to add just a little bit more to the album. The Ophidian feels heavier. Possessed tries a bit too much to be technical. It is a mostly pointless exercise. Three songs use of "ov" in their titles, the aforementioned opener, Aeon Ov Horus and The Son Ov Midian, seems unnecessary. Overall a solid death metal release. – Anna Tergel
