Reviews THE PROPHECY - REVELATIONS - NO FACE
The Prophecy is a Yorkshire-based English doom band with a mix of growling and clean vocals, gloomy melodies and simple, but lengthy guitar solos. The description could have belonged to Anathema of old or My Dying Bride and that is the band’s predicament, although with drummer John Bennett sessioning for the latter band The Prophecy is obviously not going out of its way to avoid the comparisons. The cover, booklet and the promotional photograph have an autumnal feel to them, while the lyrics take a dismal look at nature and personal feelings. The use of synthesizers and keyboards will surely turn off a few, not to mention the very clean vocals, but The Prophecy is frugal in its usage of these elements. The overall feeling of sadness and emotional narration are well placed within The Prophecy. My Dying Bride, Solitude Aeturnus or My Mourning Beloveth followers will probably like this with the band’s lack of profile probably being its biggest obstacle. - Anna Tergel
